Christmas Cash Cow ~ or ~ write a Christmas song and be set for life

The cash register ‘ka-ching’ at the start of Wizards “I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday” signalled that Roy Wood knew he was onto something that would ensure he always received a Christmas bonus. It’s something that’s become a modern myth; get a Christmas hit or a Christmas number one single (even if it has nothing to do with Christmas) and you’ll be set for life. It sure seems that if you’re lucky enough to land a catchy Christmas tune then you’ll never have another frugal Christmas again. But of course this is far from the truth. First of all I’ll address the obvious flaw in that model, the Christmas Number One single. Continue reading “Christmas Cash Cow ~ or ~ write a Christmas song and be set for life”

Dazzle Rebel 2011 Photo Album

Some photos from the year I went solo; the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Eleven.  A year that will be remembered for riots, riots and more riots.  A year that Libya, Egypt and Tunisia sack their government and the country of South Sedan is formed.  A year of Royal Weddings, increasing debts and the killing of Osama bin Laden.  A year that the 99% decided to ‘Occupy’ city centres and business districts and all bar the 1% (that are actually more like the 0.001%) had a frugal Christmas.  And of course that I released my debut EP “Skint… …and Dangerous”.

It’s Physics Jim But Not As We Know It? ~ or ~ the Higgs Boson as a layman understands it

Well there was a spectacular misfire today as all the hype surrounding the announcement by CERN, expected by many to offer clear evidence of the discovery of the Higgs Boson ended up being a bit of a damp fuse. But why all the fuss and what is the Higgs Boson anyway? Continue reading “It’s Physics Jim But Not As We Know It? ~ or ~ the Higgs Boson as a layman understands it”

The Father of Invention

Eighteen years ago today (4th December) Frank Zappa left for his final tour.  He left behind his fantastically named offspring, a wonderfully vast discography and a multifarious ensemble of discerning artists who were influenced by his music.  The metaphorical Prog Rock flag at Dazzle Rebel’s Rock’n’Roll Embassy is flying at half-mast today in honour of such a genius maverick.

New Site!

Well, I thought it was about time to start a website and here it is. The old blog just wasn’t quite up to scratch and a move to WordPress has been on the cards for a while.

You’ll also notice that I’ve changed my name back to Dazzle Rebel! Well if you hadn’t noticed I’d put my whole solo music projects on hold when I joined New Generation Superstars. When I joined New Gen, they asked me why I wasn’t working under the Dazzle Rebel stage name anymore. I didn’t really have a good answer so I decided to bring Dazzle Rebel back! Daz Vibrafly didn’t really sit well with me anyway and I suppose I just wanted to distance myself from my time in Red Star Rebels.

Anyway, I am Dazzle Rebel and I’m back!

In the words of The Carpenters it’s “only just begun” but check back soon because there will be much more content over the coming weeks.
