Dazzle Rebel 2011 Photo Album

Some photos from the year I went solo; the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Eleven.  A year that will be remembered for riots, riots and more riots.  A year that Libya, Egypt and Tunisia sack their government and the country of South Sedan is formed.  A year of Royal Weddings, increasing debts and the killing of Osama bin Laden.  A year that the 99% decided to ‘Occupy’ city centres and business districts and all bar the 1% (that are actually more like the 0.001%) had a frugal Christmas.  And of course that I released my debut EP “Skint… …and Dangerous”.

New Site!

Well, I thought it was about time to start a website and here it is. The old blog just wasn’t quite up to scratch and a move to WordPress has been on the cards for a while.

You’ll also notice that I’ve changed my name back to Dazzle Rebel! Well if you hadn’t noticed I’d put my whole solo music projects on hold when I joined New Generation Superstars. When I joined New Gen, they asked me why I wasn’t working under the Dazzle Rebel stage name anymore. I didn’t really have a good answer so I decided to bring Dazzle Rebel back! Daz Vibrafly didn’t really sit well with me anyway and I suppose I just wanted to distance myself from my time in Red Star Rebels.

Anyway, I am Dazzle Rebel and I’m back!

In the words of The Carpenters it’s “only just begun” but check back soon because there will be much more content over the coming weeks.

New Demo “This Burning Town” on MySpace

First of all, thanks to everyone who has listened to “Fringe Rock!” my demo EP. Your kind words mean a lot to me and I’m glad you’re liking the musical direction I’m taking.

Well, now here’s an evolution of my Fringe Rock sound with my new track “This Burning Town” and it’s on MySpace right now!

I’ve dialled up the distortion a bit and I’m beginning to find my singing voice. This track takes my bleak outlook on the future of humanity in a “the end is nigh” kinda way. I mean, if we don’t change our ways we’re heading towards disaster. Be it from nuclear annihilation, global warming (yes, it really is a thing regardless of if you “believe” in it or not”), asteroid strike, some kind of future disease or a zombie apocalypse (hey, the last isn’t completely out of the realms of possibility)!

The track is my way of saying “for f*ck sake, wake up”! We need to be doing something now to protect ourselves because a new, civilisation-ending disaster WILL happen in our generations lifetime if we don’t do something about it now.

Yeah, kinda doom-mongering, perhaps but that’s where my head is at right now.

As for the music (oh yeah, that’s what this website is all about after all), it’s got a groove rock kinda vibe. It still sits on the edge of mainstream, so still very much on my DIY musician, Fringe Rock ethos.

I’d love to know what you think, so head over to my MySpace and give it a listen. You might just like it!

Fringe Rock!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. I’m really excited to announce that I’ve been working on brand new music that should be available very soon. It’s kinda a bit Southern Rock mixed with old-school British Pub Rock! Yeah, totally out of fashion but totally where my tastes are right now. I like the anti-fashion vibe (part of the reason that I left Red Star Rebels last year was I didn’t like the new musical direction that was starting to chase music trends).

If you head to my MySpace page you’ll see that I’ve posted a handful of demos under an album I’ve called Fringe Rock!

Fringe Rock! – Track Listing:

  1. Bad Ass Motherf*cker
  2. 98.9
  3. Your Heart is a Combustion Engine (and it’s spitting flames)
  4. Ace Cafe Grind
  5. Kiss of Life

What’s in the name “Fringe Rock!”?

Well, as you’ll hear the music doesn’t sit very well in any defined genre of music. It’s rock music on the edge of mainstream, “fringe rock” if you will!

I’d love to know what you think of the new music. Hopefully, I’ll be getting a band together soon (if you or anyone you know is looking for a band, please get in touch)!

Acoustic EP Out Now!

Greetings folks! It might have been quiet here for a while but I’ve been very busy behind the scenes. I’m just not very good at keeping everyone posted on what I’m doing!

Anyway, I am very excited to announce that I’ve just put a brand new acoustic EP called “Smoke on the Horizon” on MySpace. However, you’ll notice that I’ve changed my name “Daz Vibrafly”! The reason for this is simple, Dazzle Rebel as a stage name came from my time in Red Star Rebels and now that I’ve left the band I think it’s time I changed my stage name.

Vibrafly was a name I came up with in the late 90s for the music project I was working on at the time and I’ve always wanted to revisit it at some point. Why not now?

Anyway, back to the music!

The four-track EP is currently up on my brand new MySpace page and consists of four tracks:

  • Real World (acoustic version)
  • The Devil Came Down to Mexico
  • Insomnia (acoustic version)
  • Real World (alternative acoustic version)

I recorded the tracks in the bedroom in my flat and I have to say, it’s about damn time I upgraded my computer! The old Logic Audio isn’t running the best and kept crashing. Recording these tracks was a task and a half, I tell thee!

So, if you have any suggestions on a decent modern (but well-priced) computer for making music, please let me know!
